Håfa Adai all! Si Yu'os ma'åse for staying connected with us at the Micronesia Challenge Guam Chapter.

We, at the Micronesia Challenge are pushing for a movement to change the territorial flower of Guam from the introduced Bougainvillea to the endemic subspecies, Bikkia tetrandra or commonly known as Guasåli in Chamorro or torchwood.

Throughout the remaining months, we will be encouraging Guam to go native and learn about the native plants and animals of Guam because these elements too are a part of the Chamorro culture.

Anthony J. Tornito

Education:
Currently a second year college student pursuing a Biology and Chamorro Studies degree at the University of Guam

Career:
Drives to be a conservationist of the land and sea with the use of Chamorro language and culture
To pursue promotion and restoration of the ko'ko, åga, and sihek populations on Guam
Also dreams of becoming a flight-attendant in the future

Micronesia Challenge Goal:

To advocate for Guam's nature: Tåno', Tåsi, and Långet (Land, Sea, and Sky)

Specifically focus on the native birds of Guam and do as much as possible to create awareness within the community about them

Lawrence Alcairo

Educational Goals:
Third year college student dual-enrolled at the University of Guam and Guam Community College pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Health Science with a concentration in Pre-Physical Therapy and a minor in Health Service Administration

Career Goal:
Pursue either a general surgery specialty or a preventive health specialty in occupational and environmental health

Personal MC Goal:
To raise awareness about the direct correlation between the state of the environment and the state of human health in all aspects; physical, mental, and social

Other Interests:
Representative, Guam Youth Congress
