I have not been able to update as often as I usually do to to mid-terms and school-related obligations.
I have come across many interesting news reports from the Pacific News Center and one recent one explains the current situation of coral bleaching on Guam.
Coral Bleaching Report
Coral bleaching is nothing new to ocean communities around the world. Due to many factors such as human contact, global warming (rising ocean temperatures), and runoff which eventually leads to sedimentation covering corals, to name a few of the many factors contributing to coral declination.
There's not that much to do to help these corals; however, environmental stewardship on the land will help the ocean in return.
One of the simplest works to do is to plant trees, native trees. By planting trees, especially in areas near rivers, soil will be held by roots and lessen erosion in that area.
If you are on Guam, you may contact the Guam Department of Agriculture Forestry Division and find the native tree for you!
You may contact them at 735-3949 and 735-3951
