The Guåhan for Guasåli team met last week to discuss the plan to change the territorial flower, the bougainvillea (an introduced species) to the Bikkia tetrandra, commonly known for its Chamorro name Guasåli or its English name torch wood (an endemic subspecies).
We will be slowly reaching out to the community on why we should change our territorial flower after our second meeting which is in two weeks.
The main reason why the environmental community wants this flower change is simply because the guasåli is native and is reflective of the people who call Guam home.
Share with your family and friends and the community!
